Louisiana law allows the Office of Motor Vehicles to sell temporary tags to licensed dealers, who in turn issue the tags to purchasers of vehicles allowing the vehicle to be driven while waiting for a permanent license plate. Licensed dealers are required to register through the Temporary Tag Database to log the vehicle and purchaser information for each tag sold.
